The Interact Club encourages youth like you to step up as leaders with hearts full of empathy. Our mission is to inspire you to lead not just with confidence, but with kindness and genuine concern for the well-being of others. Through this club, we aim to help you grow in character, in service, and in your ability to make a lasting impact with good intentions.

This district believes in the power of unity, and we’re here to help you discover the joy of helping others, working together, and building a better community. When you start young, when you choose to care, to lead, and to serve, you’re laying the foundation for a future filled with purpose and hope. As Interactors, you are part of a global movement of Rotarians who are People of Action, those who don’t just talk about change but live it every day. Together, we will create opportunities to support one another, to bring positive change, and to remind the world that young people, united in compassion, can be a powerful force for good.

What Is Interact? A Global Youth Movement of Service, Leadership and Action

In every corner of the world, young people are rising to meet the needs of their communities, driven by passion, purpose, and a desire to make a difference. At the heart of this movement is Interact, a youth program sponsored by Rotary International, designed to empower students ages 12 to 18 to become compassionate leaders and active changemakers in their local and global communities.

The Origin of Interact: Where Leadership Meets Service

The name “Interact” comes from the combination of the words “international” and “action”, a fitting name for a program that aims to connect young people globally through acts of service and leadership. Interact began its journey on November 5, 1962, when the first Interact club was chartered at Melbourne High School in Florida, USA. It was a bold vision: to create a platform where teenagers could engage in meaningful service while developing the confidence and leadership skills needed to change the world.

Rotary International, already a respected organization known for its humanitarian work, saw the importance of involving youth in service, not just as volunteers, but as leaders with their own voice. Since then, Interact has grown into a powerful movement of young leaders across more than 145 countries, with over 14,700 Interact clubs and an estimated 500,000+ Interactors worldwide.

The Impact of Interact: Local Hearts, Global Hands

What makes Interact unique is its dual focus: every club is encouraged to organize at least two significant service projects each year, one that addresses a local community need, and one that promotes international understanding. This structure allows Interactors to directly see and feel the results of their work while also becoming more aware of the world beyond their own borders.

Across the globe, Interact clubs have taken on diverse and inspiring projects:

In the United States, clubs host blood drives, organize mental health awareness campaigns, and run food pantries.

In India, Interactors lead educational programs for underprivileged children and support clean water access in rural villages.

In the Philippines, clubs focus on disaster relief, environmental clean-ups, and community feeding programs.

In Brazil, students have implemented anti-bullying initiatives, renovated schools, and supported children with disabilities.

Whether it’s planting trees, collecting school supplies, raising funds for health care, or advocating for climate justice, Interactors consistently show that age is not a barrier to making a difference.

A Platform for Leadership and Growth

But Interact is more than just service. It is a safe and encouraging space where young people learn what it means to be leaders of character. Through project planning, fundraising, and public speaking opportunities, Interactors build confidence and develop skills that stay with them for life, communication, critical thinking, empathy, and collaboration.

Many clubs are run like student-led organizations, with positions such as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and committee chairs. These roles give teens real experience in leadership, responsibility, and decision-making. The support of sponsoring Rotary clubs also provides a vital mentorship bridge, where students can learn from professionals and community leaders who are committed to serving others.

In fact, many Interactors go on to join Rotaract (Rotary’s program for young adults ages 18–30) and later become Rotarians themselves continuing their journey of service into adulthood.

Guided by Values: The Four-Way Test and People of Action

All Interact clubs uphold the values of Rotary International, which include integrity, service, leadership, diversity, and fellowship. At the core of their decision-making is the Rotary Four-Way Test, which asks:

Is it the truth?

Is it fair to all concerned?

Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

These questions help young leaders think ethically and act responsibly in everything they do. Interactors also proudly carry the Rotary motto: “Service Above Self.” This reminds every member that true leadership comes not from position or title but from the heart that’s willing to serve.

Rotarians are known as People of Action, and Interactors proudly live up to that same spirit. They are not waiting for change; they are creating it.

The Future of Interact: Youth Leading the Way

As the world faces growing challenges, climate change, inequality, mental health crises, and global conflict, young people are stepping forward with bold ideas and a desire to lead. Interact is helping shape a generation that is not only informed and aware but also equipped to act.

Every year, Interactors around the world celebrate World Interact Week to highlight their achievements and connect with other clubs. Many also participate in district and international conferences, leadership trainings, and cultural exchanges that strengthen bonds across borders.

Interact is not just a club. It’s a family. A movement. A launching pad for a life of purpose.

Whether they are restoring playgrounds in the U.S., teaching hygiene in refugee camps, or simply making someone smile in their own neighborhood, Interactors are living proof that the future is in good hands. They are the wave of youth leading change, boldly, joyfully, and together.
